People For Animal Welfare Services

PAWS Thrissur is an animal welfare organisation set up in the year 2012. Before 2012, the district of Thrissur did not have a recognised organisation working for animals. While there were some scattered animal welfare groups across a few areas, there was no collaboration between them. Understanding the fact that team work can produce better results, Preethi decided to coordinate a group of sincere and dedicated animal lovers, under the name PAWS Thrissur.

Many animal lovers are not aware of how they can help in the space of animal welfare. PAWS Thrissur aims at getting people together to work for animal wellbeing and hence the name, People for Animal Welfare Services.

For the past ten years we’ve been working relentlessly in spreading awareness against animal cruelty. Spreading awareness against cruelty and about the need to develop compassion for animals among the general public, especially among children.” The child is the father of the man”, after all. We rescue animals from distress and ensure they are rehabilitated and given new homes.

We undertake regular ongoing street dog sterilisation and vaccination programmes in order to bring down the numbers of stray dogs roaming the streets. This is the only proven way to control the stray dog population. A well equipped operation theatre facility is soon coming up to provide quick treatment for injured animals and to facilitate ABC programs for stray animals. We also have a shelter that can house upto 50 dogs at a time and be given the care and treatment they require before they get adopted or are released back into their familiar environment.
